Over Memorial Day weekend we headed out for a much anticipated 7 day vacation to Costa Rica. We were lucky enough to leave knowing the girls were in good hands, spending the first part of the week with my Mom and Grandparents then the last part of the week with Ryan's Mom and Sister.
It was quite the temperature difference going from the cold rainy Utah weather to super hot and humid. Our resort was about 30 minutes from the nearest city and to get there it was all on dirt road, a very bumpy dirt road. It's their rainy season right now so we were a little concerned about the weather, but things couldn't have been better. It was very nice during the day and then rained like no other at night some of the time.
One of the tours we went on took us to Miravalles which is an active volcano. Our day started out with a zip line tour which was really fun but kind of scary especially the first two platforms. The views were incredible though.
After the zip line tour, we had a typical Costa Rican lunch which was probably our best meal that I think we had. Then we headed up to see a waterfall on the side of the volcano. To get there we rode a horse most of the way. It was my first time riding horse so I was a bit scared but it wasn't that hard and the horses went pretty slow and knew exactly where to go without much guidance.
Once the horses dropped us off we took a short hike to see the waterfalls. We had to go over some very sketchy bridges but it was totally worth it. It was just so crazy to think that this beautiful waterfall is on the mountain side of a volcano.
We were then taken to see the crater of the volcano. I kind of expected the crater to be a little more dramatic, it just reminded me of Yellowstone. It was still really cool to see though.
Another tour that we took was a river boat tour. This was really awesome to see all of these animals in their natural habitats. We saw a lot of neat looking birds, big iguanas, bigger crocodiles, and howler monkeys.
Our trip was incredible and we had a great time hanging out just the two of us. But we missed these little faces very very much!
